Upon reviewing and interpreting prescriptions, compounds and accurately dispenses medication, while maintaining efficient workflow to provide timely delivery. Maintains inventory and record keeping for narcotics and similar drugs.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
>Reviews and approves prescriptions to be filled by pharmacy technicians according to State Board of Pharmacy regulations.
>Works with Pharmacy Technicians in performing the "final check" of filled prescriptions to ensure order accuracy and timely delivery.
>Works with patient medical information to conduct Drug Utilization Review (DUR) on all prescriptions and reviews clinical edits to ensure there is no adverse drug interaction.
>Works with appropriate pharmacy technician in reconciling Controlled Substances Log(s) with inventory on hand and prescriptions dispensed to comply with state and federal regulations.
>Works with Chief R.Ph to ensure that implementation of cost containment strategies (Pre-pack, Front-End Process, Cycle-Fill, etc.) occurs on all dispensing and procurement activities.
>Provides clinical expertise by responding to drug-related questions and concerns initiated by internal (Technicians, Nursing Staff) and external (Directors of Nursing, Administrators) customers.
>Works with pharmacy management to provide guidance, direction and training to pharmacy associates.

REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE:
>Education/Learning Experience
Required: Bachelor's degree from an accredited school of Pharmacy.
>Work Experience
Required: 3-5 years experience in a retail, mail-order or institutional pharmacy environment.
Desired: Prior supervisory experience
>Skills/Knowledge
Required: Knowledge of federal and state regulations, knowledge of drug interactions, computer data entry skills.
>Licenses/Certifications
Required: Current state R.Ph license.
>Behavior Competencies
Required: Detail orientation, technical competence, analytical ability, planning/organizing, oral communication and teamwork
